70 Screws

Why we should pay attention to what’s holding everything together - even if it’s not visible.

I recently completed building a mud kitchen for my two daughters (picture below) and took a moment to go back and count the number of screws I used to make it.

70.

I used 70 screws to hold their mud kitchen together, and with enough sturdiness I can sit on it (and I have).

But, when you look at it, not a single screw is visible.

I can't help but think about the parallels between this build and the work that we choose to do.

From the outside, everything can look so effortless and easy (not a screw in sight). But in reality, there are many people holding the entire operation together. And without them, it would all fall apart.

So who in your organization is holding everything together, but doesn't get the recognition they deserve? And, more importantly, what are you going to do today to recognize them?

Thanks for spending time with me in my workshop,

Eric
