When what you need doesn’t exist (yet).
Have you ever had an idea for something, only to realize that thing doesn't exist? This happened to me recently.
Two good friends had a baby and, knowing they were both passionate about Marketing, I wanted to give them an "ABCs of Marketing" kids' book as a baby gift. The only problem was that book didn't exist.
So I was faced with two options:
1. Find a different baby gift and move on
or
2. Create the book I wanted first, then gift it to them
I chose to take the second path (as you can tell by the picture) and had alot of fun pulling this project together. But, as I reflected on the process, it dawned on me that, sometimes, the best way to solve a problem is to create the solution yourself.
Whether you're trying to solve a problem with a product that doesn't exist, a process that should be created, or just a fun little book - creativity often starts when you see a gap.
So the challenge is to think about the problems you're trying to solve and take a step back. Are you trying to adjust, tweak, or shoehorn other solutions to fit your need? Would you be better off creating your own solution?
Don't let "that thing doesn't exist" stop you - roll up your sleeves and make it happen!
Thanks for spending time with me in my workshop,
Eric
