Create Something

Why we need to challenge ourselves to create.

In the hustle of the holiday season, followed quickly by the rapid return to work in early January, it's easy to take aim at the classic To Do List. Simply identify the things that need to be done, and, slowly but surely, work your way down the list checking them off.

But it's also a great time to flex your creative side.

I've found the easiest way to change my mindset from the "To Do List Mentality" to the "Create Something Mentality" is to actually create something (surprised?).

Roll up your sleeves.
Pick up your pencil.
Start building.

It doesn't have to be anything connected to your work. In fact, it's probably better if it's not. Identify something you've been wanting to make - and simply start making it.

Perhaps it's a piece of art you've painted in your head a hundred times before, but you've never picked up your brush.

Perhaps it's the book you've planned on writing, but so far you have only a blank Word document to show.

Perhaps it's that business you've been wanting to launch, but haven't pulled the trigger for one reason or another.

Draft One won't be perfect.
It probably won't match your vision.
But the important thing is to start.
You can figure out the rest along the way.

Then, carry that mindset forward with you.

So, what are you going to create?

Thanks for spending time with me in my workshop,

Eric
