Are We Having Fun?

Why we should ask the question and why our answer should be yes.

If you've worked with me on a project, there's a good chance you've heard me ask the question "are we having fun?". I make a point of asking it because it's an important question to ask.

Yes, there are always going to be changes to a plan or project. Yes, there are always going to be obstacles and impediments to progress. Yes, the work is always going to be difficult, challenging, or stretch us in new ways. Yes, there is always going to be a certain amount of process, bureaucracy, or red tape.

But even with all of the above - your work should be important.

It should be worth rolling up your sleeves and engaging with.

You should welcome the challenges that arise, knowing you'll come out on the other side better because of them.

And, if you're lucky, it'll be fun.

So, regardless of your role on the team, ask the group "are we having fun?"

Chances are good that you are having fun - but it may be that you've never stopped to ask the question.

Thanks for spending time with me in my workshop,

Eric
